ABOUT MARISSA

Marissa is a photographer & heritage consultant who focuses on nonprofits, NGOs, heritage sites, and small business organization. She believes in the importance of creative storytelling to educate and uplift community spirits.

Her travels have taken her through the united states, united kingdom, and western Europe. She hopes to add South America and Eastern Europe soon. With a decade of photography under her belt, her philosophy is to photograph your story genuinely, authentically, and beautifully!

Marissa has a Bachelors of Art in Art History with a minor in English from the University of Houston, and a Masters of Arts in Managing Archaeological Sites from the University College London in the United Kingdom, specializing in dark heritage and conflict archaeology.

Advanced Seminars

Digital Heritage: Applications in Heritage Management, Fall 2021
University College London, in partnership with House Mill, London

This graduate level course worked with House Mill, the largest surviving 18th century tidal mill in the world, to provide hands on practical skills when working with heritage sites. During this course, students were assigned to assist in detailed documentation of a grade one listed heritage site, and create valued reports on findings regarding degradation, funding suggestions, and marketing strategies.

The University of Houston in partnership with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

This advanced seminar worked with a panel of professors/museum professionals including the MFAH Conservation Department, the Education Department, Dr. Mari Carmen Ramírez, Wortham Curator of Latin American Art, Dr. Arden Decker, Director or the International Center for the Arts of the Americas Department at the MFAH. This seminar course provided students with hands-on experience with art objects Latin America as well as training in curatorial and conservation practice.

The University of Houston in partnership with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

This advanced seminar worked with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to provide hands on experience with photographic archives and showcasing firsthand the processes in which these materials were cared for as well as showing real examples of history. Alongside this, this class was also able to work in close relation to the University of Houston’s special collections department in viewing real 19th century photographic prints and books.

The University of Houston

This advanced seminar worked with The University of Houston’s Special Collections department to provide hands on experience with facsimiles and authentic illuminated manuscripts. Students were able to learn firsthand about the creation and archival processes in which these materials were cared for as well as showing real examples of history.
